DAY 1
We will be here at Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi to meet you on arrival off. Once the brief formalities are completed, drive to Ngong House, a lovely tree house hotel built on the outskirts of Nairobi in Karen. A beautiful view of the Ngong Hills and a perfect place to start your holiday adventure.

DAY 2 & 3
Leaving Nairobi,  set off on safari, flying by charter aircraft north past the massive peaks of Mt. Kenya to the drier little-inhabited bush country beyond. Touch down on a dusty runway near Samburu Game Reserve where Sasaab Camp has been built  in an idyllic spot beside the Uaso Nyiro river. Glorious days are spent here photographing the varied wildlife.   Well known for its elephant and many northern game species such as Beisa oryx, Grevy zebra, kudu, gerenuk and reticulated giraffe, most big predators including lion can be seen in Shaba. The biggest challenge is to spot the rare striped hyaena. In the midst of this most spectacular scenery one can also see something of the fascinating age-old traditions practised by various local tribespeople, especially the Samburu, nearby. This is something that future generations may not see. All drives are in very comfortable, well-equipped 4-wheel drive vehicles. The camp is new and has wonderful facilities and very good guides. A chance to walk with a ranger is also possible and plenty can be learnt this way.

TWO NIGHTS, SASAAB CAMP

DAY 4, 5 & 6
Leaving Sasaab fly west to Borana lodge, a twenty minute flight, it is a beautiful lodge on a large game ranch. It is set on a hilltop, looking down from the Laikipia Plateau onto the Mukogodo Forest and the Samburu plains far below. The buildings are truly unique in design, the exteriors taking their cue from the rugged setting and the whole accommodating up to16 people in magnificent, spacious cedar and stone thatched rooms all very originally furnished.  There is a stunning swimming pool. As well as walking and driving on the ranch, visits can be made to the neighbouring rhino sanctuary and horses are available so that one may ride amongst the giraffe and zebra, which are quite tame. A sortie may be made up on to the mountain for fly-fishing.

THREE NIGHTS AT BORANA LODGE, BORANA RANCH

DAY 7 & 8

borana lodge
Leave Borana  in a light aircraft, for a one hour flight, connecting in Nairobi with a schedule flight through via Kilimanjaro in Tanzania (for immigration purposes) to Manyara, landing on an airstrip overlooking Lake Manyara early afternoon.. From here drive to your next camp and then over the next two days visitthe huge and famous caldera of Ngorongoro, ten miles across, sits perched amongst other ancient volcanoes with its 2000 foot high walls protecting a hidden treasure of wildlife.  Lion are readily seen on the crater floor together with hyaena and jackal.  This is one of the last strongholds of the black rhino in Tanzania.  Because of the extraordinary steepness of the crater walls, giraffe are not found and only male elephants choose to pick their way carefully down to the bottom.

TWO NIGHTS  NGORONGORO CAMP

Day 9, 10, 11 & 12
A lengthy but extraordinary drive today will take you still further west, past Olduvai Gorge, and across the far-reaching plains of the Serengeti. The tented camp here is miles from any other facilities, surrounded by only wildlife and nature.  Three full days exploring this vast tract of bush country with its open plains and granite hills is just enough time to fully appreciate the huge wealth of game usually found here. For those whose main wish is to witness a big cat in action, there is nowhere that one has a better chance of seeing such things.  It is a wonderful feeling to head out each morning, exploring every rocky outcrop and thicket for the surprises it holds (if not a leopard, perhaps a python lazing on a rock in the sunshine) stopping mid-morning for a picnic breakfast.  Sometimes a longer day, with a lunchbox in the back of the car, allows one to go even further afield. From December to March the main wildebeest migration will be spread out over this area of the park; the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti and neighbouring Maswa Reserve and one is surrounded by staggering numbers of animals. Sleep at night with the roaring of lions coming from all around.

FOUR NIGHTS IN SERENGETI  SAFARI CAMP, TANZANIA

Day 13
RETURN HOME
Return by air to Kilimanjaro for an onward connection to Nairobi, where you’ll have a bit of time before final departure. Unless you would like to book day rooms at an hotel, our drivers will bring you to our house to leave your luggage. (Alternatively, fly only as far as Arusha, departing later from Kilimanjaro Airport.) You will have time in the afternoon for shopping and to rest and wash before your flight home.
