My Pictures\Charlie Burrel photos Feb 2006\Charlie Burrel photos Feb 2006 126.jpgJune 26th, GIRAFFE MANOR, NAIROBI
Leaving home the day before fly to Nairobi, Kenya. We will be at the airport to meet you and take you to the Giraffe Manor, the only hotel in Nairobi with Giraffe in the garden, and warthog on the lawn.

June 27,28 & 29 SHABA - PRIVATE CAMP
Flying north past Mt. Kenya touch down on a dusty runway in Shaba Game Reserve where your private tented camp will be ready in an idyllic spot beside the Uaso Nyiro river. Well known for its elephant and many northern game species such as Beisa oryx, Grevy zebra, kudu, gerenuk and reticulated giraffe, most big predators including lion can be seen in Shaba. While here we will also try and see something of the nomadic Borana people who live nearby, with their large herds of camels and goats. Your camp will be on a bend in the river with great views either way and our large mess tent set up in the cool shade on the rivers edge where it catches the breeze is stunning. The sleeping tents are all large and insect proof with sprung beds and small bathrooms on the back of each tent. My Pictures\Charlie Jan Feb 2006\Charlie Jan Feb 2006 055.jpgExcellent chefs keep us well fed and the bar is always open. All drives are in very comfortable, well-equipped 4-wheel drive vehicles (there is cushioned seating even on the roof). Stretch your legs with a good brisk walk along the river, watching out for thirsty wild creatures, and then back to camp for a most delicious meal. Our food is cosmopolitan and most tastes can be catered for. Freshest fruit and vegetables are served. At night enjoy an ice-cold drink by the camp-fire and dinner under the stars before retiring to huge, insect-proof tents with comfortable double beds and crisp linen

June 30th TASSIA LODGE
We will drive to  the west and Tassia Ranch, a large ranch belonging to the Laikipiak Masai of the area, who own and run the lodge and there by benefit their own community. The guides will take you to a village and this gives you a good chance to learn something of their culture and customs and also their medicinal use of the plants of the area. Walking along the dry river beds can also be rewarding with plenty of game to see, Imapla, warthog, kudu, gerenuk and wonderful bird life. The lodge itself is set up in the hills with wonderful views and a swimming pool overlooking the water hole in the valley below.

July 1,2 & 3 LOLDAIGA RANCH
Our hard working camp crew will move our mobile camp to Lolldaiga Ranch on Laikipia and  leaving Tassia we will drive to Loldaiga which is west of Mount Kenya in the Laikipia Plateau. Lolldaiga is a  great tract of land covering the good part of a small mountain range and undoubtedly the most beautiful, private sanctuary where elephant and most other wild animals can be readily seen. Our camp is set up in this private wildlife ranch at the base of a huge rock face and by foot, or vehicle, we will explore this area. With the cedar forests in the hills and the dry bush land below we have plenty of variety and watching the elephants in the dam at midday from a small blind is very exciting and makes you feel very much part of the herd. Horses can be bought in by request.

July 4&5 DELORAINE HOUSE
We will leave today by vehicle, for the Great Rift Valley and Deloraine. Built in 1920 by Lord Francis Scott, a prominent early settler, this house is one of the grandest examples of colonial architecture in the country with beautiful gardens, a tennis court and swimming pool. Our middle day will be spent visiting either Lake Nakuru National Park or Lake Bogoria National Park, depending on where the flamingos are gathered at the time. Lake Nakuru  is much visited by has a lot of rhinos and other wildlife as well and Lake Bogoria has less wildlife but is truly spectacular. The flamingos move between the two during the year.

My Pictures\Charlie Burrel photos Feb 2006\Charlie Burrel photos Feb 2006 031.jpgJuly 6, 7 & 8 MASAI MARA – PRIVATE CAMP
A full morning’s drive through the emerald hills of the tea-growing district to the Mara and the vast rolling plains and the endless herds of game for which the Mara is famous.  The chance to see cats, (lion, leopard and cheetah) hunting is fairly high. Huge herds of buffalo and zebra, as well as impala, gazelle, waterbuck, topi, and elephants Your camp will be, once again, on the banks of a small stream in the midst of this teeming game and night sounds are incredible.

July 9, RETURN HOME
