Private Camp – Masai Mara
Leave home and arriving on Saturday 5th February, 2011 in Nairobi – transfer to the domestic airport and catch a schedule flight to the Masai Mara.
5th, 6th, 7th & 8th March, 2011
Private Camp, Masai Mara
Land here amidst the endless herds of game for which the Mara is famous. This is where you will join your camp, set up on a small stream in the heart of the wildlife area. The tents are comfortable and mosquito proof with a loo and shower tent set up just behind. The mess is fully equipped and our kitchens well experienced at providing delicious meals in the bush. The game viewing is always amazing and the chance of seeing a big cat in action is good. Patience is often rewarded with the incredible sight of lions springing from cover onto their prey or a cheetah racing along (at sixty mph.) hard on the heels of a fleet-footed gazelle. Sharp-eyed spotters on the roof of each vehicle increase the chance of such sightings. Amongst these teeming numbers of buffalo, topi, zebra, and gazelle are the Masai with their great herds of cattle. . All drives are in very comfortable, well-equipped 4-wheel drive vehicles (there is cushioned seating even on the roof). End each day with a fine dinner and pleasant stories by the fireside and then to bed with the roar of lions.
9th & 10th March, 2011
Loldaiga Farm House, Laikipia
Leaving the Mara this morning, catch a schedule flight north to Nanyuki. Here we would be transferred to Loldaiga, a large game ranch with its own range of hills an hours from Nanyuki. Arriving at the Farm House, a lovely cedar built house with fantastic views on to Mt Kenya, where we would be staying for the next two nights, we would find our horses.
The first afternoon we would try out our steeds until everyone is comfortable. The next day would be spent on the horses exploring the cedar forests in the hills and valleys of southern Loldaiga. A fair amount of game can be found up here, with plenty of buffalo to watch out for as well as zebra, heartbeeste, impala, elephant, reed buck, bush buck, and we see the occasional lion or leopard. We hear the hyeana most night, as they pass by.
11th March, 2011
Fisi Damm
Riding north today, with a picnic lunch in our saddle bags, we would go down the hills to the lower country, where we find more game and slightly different varieties, such as oryx, gerenuk, dikdik, and more elephant, buffalos etc. Here we would spend our first night camping with the horses, (our camp having come from the very south of Kenya to join us on the ranch).
12th March, 2011
Rocky Hollow
Leaving the ranch this morning we would ride west ward. Quite a long slow ride today because of the terrain - following the Sinyai Lugga. This river only runs occasionally, but often has good water holes in it. Moving though a group ranch belonging to the Masai people of this area we would pass by a few villages and catch a glimpse of how they live. We would camp with the horses in a small valley which often has some impala, or grants gazelle and plenty of dikdik.
13th March, 2011
Chololo Ranch
Riding south west today, we would cross over Chololo ranch to a lovely campsite on the Ewaso Ngiro River. Here we may find some herds of eland and plenty of monkies along the river. As it is not a long move today, we may go for a walk in the evening and explore some of the large rocky kopjes on this ranch.
14th March, 2011
Laikipia Ranch
Crossing the river on our final day today we would ride over Mpala Ranch, a large game ranch given over to the conservation of all wild life, but especially elephants. With a picnic in the middle of the ranch we may see some of the first grade cattle and there is an excellent research station here. Our final camp would be set up on a smaller river on the very western boundry of this ranch and the game here is absolutely lovely. Plenty of giraffe and zebra and all the plains game as well as elephants and a few predators.
15th March 2011
Leaving camp quite early by vehicle we would have a full days drive back to Nairobi in time to catch your homeward flight in the evening.
This 11 day private mobile tented safari with 5 days horse riding will cost US$ 8470 per person, with a minimum of 3 pax Included in this cost is all safari costs, including all accommodations, transfers, game drives, mentioned internal flights. Game park entrance fees, drinks in camp, flying doctor membership and a great deal of fun. Not included are tips etc.
